Copycat Nutrisystem Recipes. These are not Nutrisystem approved recipes or plan. I have not contacted Nutrisystem with any of my recipes to see if they would be approved. I simply follow the NS plan as closely as I possibly can by looking at their website and using my own ingredients to make recipes. It has worked for my husband and I, but it may not work for you.
My husband and I both lost over 50 pounds by making and using my own copycat Nutrisystem recipes. After buying several Nutrisystem starter packs at Walmart and not really liking the taste of their food, I spent many hours looking at their food on their website and came up with my own versions.
Be sure to calculate your own calories when you make these recipes, the calories I list are accurate with the ingredients I used, you may have to use different ingredients according to what is available in your area, so the calories, protein and such may change.
We used a 1200 calorie plan and tried to stay within that limit for me, for my husband, he usually ate an extra 1/2 serving at each meal. We think the recipes are great and we never have problems staying on the plan. My husband and I would have one free day a month, to eat whatever we liked, within moderation.
On the copycat plan we made we followed the guidelines below.
Breakfast includes 1 fruit, 1 dairy or protein and 1 carb. We stayed with less than 130 calories for our entree and kept our breakfast between 220-265 total calories.
Lunch includes 1 salad with dressing, 1 protein, 1 carb and 1 extra dairy or protein. We kept our our carb at 75-100 calories, our protein at 100 calories or less and total calories between 320-360.
Supper (Dinner) includes 1 salad with dressing, 1 protein (around 4 oz of a lean meat), 2 servings of vegetables and a fat serving. Check your salad dressing, usually the fat serving is in there. We tried to keep our carb between 100 and 120 calories. Total calories at 360 to 410. NS dinner entree averages from 240 to 300 calories alone. Your vegetables should bring it up to around 360-410 total, a tad over now and then is ok.
Dessert. We rarely had desert but we do have a few recipes we use from time to time. Dessert should range between 100-125 calories.
Snacks. I will list some snacks we have tried but we don’t snack very often. A snack and Dessert are allowed on the NS plan.
I have a friend who was on Nutrisystem and she helped me understand how to calculate my protein grams per day by taking my ideal weight and multiplying that by .6 if your not very active, .7 if you are moderately active and .8 if you are very active. For me, my ideal body weight is 125 lbs. (125 x .6 is 75), (125 x .7 is 87.5), and (125 x .8 is 100). Because of my activity level, I try to get between 90 and 100 grams of protein per day.
